ABOUT

Lucy Kress is a bioengineering student interested in medical product design. She is particularly interested in communication equity. She is passionate about removing the barriers of communication and helping people find equal access to technology regardless of ability or background.

Her commitment to communication equity comes from early volunteer experiences with Game On summer camp: a camp dedicated to providing children with high-functioning autism and ADHD a safe place to connect with peers and increase awareness of nature and of the world at large. Lucy’s six years of experience as a counselor with Game On has given her an appreciation for the way every person engages with the world differently. In her professional career, she wishes to incorporate this appreciation.

In her education at the University of Pittsburgh, Lucy has tailored her curriculum to include classes with a focus on human centered design. She has gone on to mentor students as a teaching assistant and served as resident assistant to Forbes Hall’s and Panther Hall’s Engineering Living Learning Communities. She has worked to foster synergy of curriculum and life out of the classroom, interdisciplinarity, innovation and community engagement on campus and in the greater Pittsburgh area.

Reach out to Lucy at vlk14@pitt.edu. She’d love to hear from you!
